Rounds # 1 of the CSRA – Rockstar Energy National Snowcross Championships was held January 16-17th in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec. The International Snowcross Grand Prix is always a highlight of the season with huge crowds and tons of snow with a track base of over 20’ Ft deep! This was also the first event of the CSRA/SCMX Triple Crown series.
Saturday morning saw over 10cm of fresh powder creating a soft track with serious snowdust problems and temperatures sitting around -20C(-4F) and -28C(-18 F) with the wind chill. The Sport 600 class was dominated by the Quebec riders with #64q Bobby Desjardin (Arctic Cat) from Ferme-Neuve, QC taking home the win. He was followed by #100q Samuel Lavoei from Degelis, QC in 2nd and #20q Francis Pelletier (Ski-Doo) from St.Prime, QC in 3rd. The Pro-Lite final saw #335 Taylor McCoy (McCoy Racing, Ski-Doo) from Bracebridge, ON, the 2015 Sport 600 National Champion, take the win over #109q Jonathan Roberge from Chibougamau, PR and #102 Yannick Boucher(Boucher Plumbing & Heating, Ski-Doo) from Hearst, ON who placed 3rd after battling hard with McCoy. For the Pro Open class #999 Colby Crappo (Huber Motorsports, Polaris) from St.Anthony, ID, USA dominated over the field placing 1st, followed by #27x Mathieu Morin (Ski-Doo) from Val D’or, QC in 2nd and from St.Theodore D’actio, QC, #312i Danny Poirier (Ski-Doo) came in 3rd.
Sunday saw balmy temperatures of only -16C (3F) but the track was completely opposite from Saturday with it being hard packed and fast! Sport 600 finals on Sunday once again saw #64q Bobby Desjardin (Arctic Cat) from Ferme-Neuve, QC back on top with a 1st place finish. #20q Francis Pelletier (Ski-Doo) from St.Prime, QC and #100q Samuel Lavoei from Degelis, QC battled it out over 2nd place with Lavoei placing 3rd. Pro-Lite saw another Sport 600 rider that moved up this season taking the 1st place position #729 Ryan Hunt (Baileys Motorsports, Ski-Doo) from Etobicoke, ON. #459 Jake Weir (Black River Racing, Arctic Cat) from Bracebridge, ON placed 2nd followed by #102 Yannick Boucher (Boucher Plumbing & Heating, Ski-Doo) from Hearst, ON. The Pro Open final had team Rockstar OTSFF Polaris out front with #93 Iain Hayden, from Holland Centre, ON taking the win with #999 Colby Crappo (Huber Motorsports, Polaris) from St.Anthony, ID taking 2nd and #421 Dylan Hall (Rockstar OTSFF Polaris) from Ayr, ON in 3rd.
The next CSRA race will be held this coming weekend, January 22-23 in St. Alexis Desmont, QC. This event will be a SCMX and CSRA combined event and the 2nd race in the Triple Crown series.
